I’m Charles, and I make piano fun for humans of all ages.
I have a passion for figuring out ways to simplify complicated things (like learning piano) to make them more understandable and entertaining for students.
I also enjoy combining my musical knowledge with graphic design to provide students with clear and engaging learning materials.
I hold degrees from Temple University (M.M. Piano Pedagogy) and the Peabody Institute (B.M. Jazz Piano). I also studied classical piano at the Juilliard School Pre-College Program. I have 15 years of teaching experience and 30 years of playing experience.
I want to help you find your unique musical voice, which is why my teaching centers around student-directed activities like ear training, improvising, and composing. By using your own creativity as a springboard for learning, you will begin to organically build your own musical vocabulary. The result is a learning experience that is fun for humans of all ages.

Improvisation is the lifeblood of music and it takes center stage in the learning process, no matter your level or preferred genre.
Playing by ear
It’s often regarded as a mystical power bestowed upon a chosen few.
In reality, playing by ear is a very learnable skill that will both supercharge your musical progress and provide lifelong gratification.
Repertoire
The music you learn is always dictated by your own tastes and preferences - I want you to learn the music you feel passionate about.
If you’re not sure what you want to learn, I’ll curate a well-rounded mix of classical favorites, folk songs, and pop. No matter what, we’ll find the music that moves you.
Technique
Every human hand is unique.
My conservatory training provides me with the know-how to give you the technical guidance you need, when you need it. Whether you want to learn Für Elise or the Super Mario theme, we’ll always find a way to get your fingers to do your bidding.
